Installing two layers of gypsum board on each side of the frame not only increases the total mass of the wall but also utilizes the friction between the two layers to create a “damping effect,” significantly reducing sound penetration. During construction, the joints between the two layers must be strictly staggered, and all tiny gaps and holes must be filled with putty. Because sound has extremely strong penetrating power, even a single unsealed electrical outlet hole in a wall will significantly reduce sound insulation.
